Not my best, but it was fun to try something new. The worst part was I had to shelve the books when I was done.
Tonight I think about my experience blogging for the past 31 days. Hard to believe it’s been that long because it seems like the challenge just started the other day. Thanks Diana for suggesting that I try it. I’m glad I did it, but I won’t deny that I’m happy it’s over because I need more sleep. I’m kind of a late night blogger. I looked at the things I wrote and some are good. Next year, or maybe every Tuesday, I plan on thinking more about the craft of writing and what makes good writing. There’s a lot to learn and I’ve merely scratched the surface.
I’m a sky watcher and have been for about the past four years. I love to look at the sky and notice how it’s never the same, much like snowflakes. Even a gray cloudy day is beautiful to me because I love the subtle shades of gray that are visible if you look closely. Sometimes I take pictures with my ipad or camera, but other times I just enjoy watching it. When you take the time to stop and observe, you’ll be amazed at how quickly the colors in a sunrise or a sunset will change.
I don’t know how many sky pictures I have because I’m afraid to count them. When I retire, I’m going to take a photography course so my shots will look like the sky the way I see it. It’s very frustrating to take a picture and then see that the color is off. I need to learn how to adjust the color and things lie that. Until then, I’ll just continue to look and try to capture some of the beauty that I see.
Today I had time to do something that I enjoy, beading. I had two projects that I needed to finish and get off the dining room table, a bracelet and a necklace. The bracelet went relatively quickly since the pattern is repetitious and it calls for some good sized beads. It’s not entirely finished, but I didn’t attach the clasp because I’m not sure what type I’m going to use. There are so many choices and finishes that deciding on what clasp to use is the hardest part for me.
The necklace was a much more difficult piece. It was made almost entirely with seed beads which are very tiny and each bead was stitched individually. Though not a great photo, you can see that the necklace is made up of these many many little beads. The golden yellow drop beads are actually fresh water pearls that have been dyed. The pearls are an odd color , but I think the necklace came out okay.
Though I like to bead, I don’t always have a lot of time, but that doesn’t stop me from buying new beads. I’m what they call a bead hoarder since I have more beads than I’ll probably ever use. Despite this vast stash of beads, when I go to start a project, I never seem to have all the beads I need to complete it. I’m always missing a size or a color which means that I have to buy more. But can you ever really have too many beads? I think not.
Sorry these pictures are not very clear.
When is spring weather going to come to Maine? Today I woke up and from my bed I could see that it was cloudy and gray. I got out of bed and brrrrrrr, it felt chilly. That shouldn’t have been a surprise because the inside temperature was only 52. I decided to build a fire in the woodstove to warm the place up a bit. Thank goodness there was kindling wood to get the fire going. Once that was accomplished, I put the kettle on for tea, threw my winter coat over my fleece bathrobe and ran out to give the horse some hay. As I left the stable, I realized it was spitting snow. Spring, really?
I’m sitting in my chair thinking about what to write for my SOL and next thing I know my head jerks and I realize it’s 9:45. Asleep at the laptop again!
I was up until midnight last because I was talking to my son who had just driven to Maine from West Virginia. I woke at 5AM which gave me time to have a cup of tea, meditate with Deepak and Ophrah for 20 minutes, ride the bike and read for 20 minutes, feed the horse and get ready to go to work. Next came a full day of work, including trying to make book trailers with the chatty and unruly 5th grade class that I have at the end of the day. By 4:30 I was in Shaw’s doing my weekly shopping. Once home, I fed the horse and dog, made a quick supper, did the dishes, and finally sat down to write. Then my head jerks and I wake up.
So there is my slice of life for today and now it’s time for bed.
My son, Daniel, will be home late tonight after leaving West Virginia around 8 this morning. I was hoping that he would stop and spend the night rather than drive straight through, but no. I’m sure he is anxious to be back in the great state of Maine. The last text I got said that he had just crossed the Hudson River and that was at 4:30. By looking at my map app on my iPad, I figure that he’ll be home around 10PM. It’s now 8:47, so I’m going to make myself a cup of tea, read (probably fall asleep) and wait for his arrival. Update: He is just entering New Hampshire, about 2 hours more. Yay!
I’m tired tonight. This week I’ve had to be at school early for meetings and clubs and I’ve stayed late in the evenings. My son is going through a tough time and though I’m not frantic or anything, it’s emotionally draining. So tonight I was going to just get on, post a few words and go read my book or may be even go to bed early.
I can’t remember exactly how this happened, but when I got on my laptop I started thinking of all the music on YouTube. I remembered this song that I loved when I was a young teen called I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night, and I wondered if I could find it. I did and I listened to it, and then I listened to another oldie, Incense and Peppermints by the Strawberry Alarm Clock, then Along Came Mary by the Association, then a clip of the top 5 bands of the 60’s, and next thing I knew it was an hour later.
I feel refreshed by that blast from the past, and thinking about dances, old boy friends and teen drama. Glad I got sidetracked.
If you were a teen in the late 60’s you may enjoy these. Hoping that these links work.
